The Legacy of Prophethood

The Prophethood in Islam (Abrahamic Faith)

The concept of prophethood in Islam, the most modern and updated version of Abrahamic faith of monotheism, holds a profound significance. It serves as the divine link between Allah (God) and humanity, conveying His guidance through chosen messengers (AS). These prophets (peace be upon them all) were not only entrusted with delivering the message of God, but also with the responsibility of leading humanity towards righteousness and ultimate salvation, as we have been emphasizing in this series articles signifying Abrahamic faith of monotheism.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH): A Life Journey

Early Years and the Call to Prophethood

Prophet Muhammad PBUH, born approximately in the year 570 C.E. within the revered Bani Hashim lineage of the Al-Quraish Tribe in Makkah - the center of the Earth, bore lineage from Prophet Ismael (AS), the firstborn son of Prophet Abraham (AS).

His grandfather Abu Muttalib was the Chief of Bani Hashim Clan - the custodians of the ancient House of Allah, the Kaaba, built by their ancestors Prophet Abraham and Prophet Ishmael (peace be upon them).

His early life was characterized by an exceptional moral compass and profound wisdom, earning him the title of Al-Amin, the trustworthy and Al-Sadiq, the honest. At the age of 40, in the Cave of Hira, he received the first revelation from Allah through the Angel Gabriel (AS), initiating his sacred mission.

The Message of Unity and Compassion

At the heart of Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) message lies the core principle shared by all divine messengers: the belief in the absolute oneness of God, Allah. He fervently advocated for the worship of the one true God, while also emphasizing compassion, justice, and the imperative of building a harmonious society.

Resilience in the Face of Adversity

Trials and Triumphs

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) encountered a myriad of challenges during his prophetic journey of 23 years. He withstood persecution, endured rejection, and even faced life-threatening attempts. Despite these trials, he remained unwavering in his mission, demonstrating an unparalleled strength of character and unwavering commitment to his divine calling.

Quranic Affirmation of Finality - The Seal of Prophets

The Quran, revered as the holy book of Islam, unequivocally declares Muhammad (PBUH) as the last prophet appointed by Allah. This divine assertion is reinforced in verses such as Surah Al-Ahzab (33:40) and Surah Al-Araf (7:157), leaving no room for doubt regarding the finality of his prophethood.

“Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the seal of the Prophets. Allah has full knowledge of everything.”

Prophet Muhammad ï·º had three biological sons, who all died in childhood.

“[To-day this mercy is for] those who follow the ummi Prophet, whom they find mentioned in the Torah and the Gospel with them. He enjoins upon them what is good and forbids them what is evil. He makes the clean things lawful to them and prohibits all corrupt things, and removes from them their burdens and the shackles that were upon them. So those who believe in him and assist him, and succor him and follow the Light which has been sent down with him, it is they who shall prosper.”

The Finality of Prophethood

Central to Islamic belief is the finality of prophethood. It unequivocally affirms that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the culmination of this noble lineage of messengers, the Seal of the Prophets, concluding the series of Divine emissaries sent to illuminate the path for humanity.
